Anand, 18 September 2026: Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Government of India, launched four new farmer-centric initiatives to strengthen the dairy cooperative sector at NDDB, Anand on 18th September, 2026 as the Chief Guest in the presence of Prof S P Singh Baghel, Hon’ble Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Government of India. Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India; Ms Varsha Joshi, Additional Secretary, DAHD, Government of India; Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman, NDDB; Managing Directors of NDDB’s subsidiaries, officials of DAHD, NDDB and dairy farmers were also present.
The initiatives include Mother Dairy’s (a wholly-owned subsidiary of NDDB) 10 gram Butter Chiplets, enhancing its butter category presence; NDDB-developed Milk Adulteration Detection Kits (manufactured by NDDB’s wholly-owned subsidiary NDDB CALF Ltd), enabling convenient and economical testing for adulterants; a lithium-ion battery-operated 300-litre Mobile Milk Collection & Cooling System with IoT monitoring facility designed by NDDB (manufactured by NDDB’s wholly-owned subsidiary IDMC Limited) for direct milk collection, including weighing, quality testing and receipt generation at rural areas and DARPAN – an integrated Document Management System being implemented at NDDB.
Appreciating the work done by NDDB, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh noted that India is now the world’s largest milk producer, but it faces challenges in increasing the share of organised market and ensuring quantity of milk and milk products. Quality milk is vital for the public health. The Hon’ble Union Minister praised NDDB’s four new initiatives, emphasising the need for large-scale implementation and commercialisation, particularly for Mother Dairy’s 10-gram Butter Chiplets, Milk Adulteration Detection Kits and Mobile Milk Collection & Cooling System. He also lauded NDDB’s digitalisation initiative – DARPAN – an integrated documentation management system.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof S P Singh Baghel said that Animal Husbandry & Dairying Department was separated from the Ministry of Agriculture and made an independent entity – a move that paved the way for realising the goal of doubling farmers’ income. He stated that India ranks first globally in milk production. Prof Baghel cited that White Revolution was launched from this very place – Anand – and today, per capita milk consumption is higher than the global average. The Hon’ble Union Minister particularly appreciated NDDB’s ET, IVF and sex-sorted semen technologies, describing them as initiatives close to his heart. He stressed that the goal is to strengthen dairy cooperative societies and establish new ones, thereby transforming the unorganised sector into an organised one and addressing the shortcomings and challenges associated with the sector.
Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman, NDDB, mentioned that today’s event highlights NDDB’s commitment to the dairy sector, emphasising support for farmers and the cooperative movement. The presence of Hon’ble Union Ministers at NDDB, Anand is significant, providing guidance to strengthen the animal husbandry and dairy cooperative sector. Anand’s legacy is intrinsically linked to India’s dairy cooperative movement, with NDDB empowering producer-owned entities through modern technology and management practices. NDDB is prioritising the establishment of new dairy cooperatives and the enhancement of existing ones through ‘White Revolution 2.0′, in partnership with states and milk unions. The organisation is also collaborating with DAHD to promote advanced indigenous technologies, including artificial insemination, sex-sorted semen, embryo transfer & IVF and genomic selection for animals. The future of dairy hinges on sustainable production, leveraging initiatives like household biogas, centralised energy solutions and Bio-CNG for increased energy self-reliance and farmers’ income.
Continuing this farmer-centric and innovation-driven approach, NDDB presented four significant innovations. While they pertain to different areas, they share a common objective – to make the dairy sector safer, more efficient, transparent and modern.
